Harvard University course - Cybersecurity: Managing Risk in the Information Age

I recently successfully completed Harvard University’s “Cybersecurity: Managing Risk in the Information Age” programme. The course was conducted by Eric Rosenbach of the Harvard Kennedy School, Director of the Defending Digital Democracy Project and former Chief of Staff to US Secretary of Defense Ash Carter.

The course comprehensively addressed cybersecurity risks and threats in the Information Age together with the identification of critical business systems, assets and technologies. The programme also involved participation in a full cybersecurity incident response scenario and the design and development of effective mitigation strategies and policies. Significant emphasis was placed on the crucial role of leadership in managing risk and on the role of law and lawyers, particularly in our international, networked environment in the Information Age. Real, and highly practical, insights were obtained into emerging cybersecurity threats, cross-jurisdictional issues, mandatory data breach regimes (including Australia’s – see also 23 July 2018 and 7 January 2019 Australis Chambers’ Digital News posts), cyberinsurance, human factors and responsive legal approaches to cybersecurity to manage cybersecurity risk.
